The Boston Celtics and Enes Kanter are ready for this long off-season to conclude, and the start of the regular season to begin. Kanter’s spent a lot of time this summer ‘giving back’ to America, and working on making his home of Turkey a better/safer place.
Enes Kanter has certainly gone through a lot of adversities since joining the NBA. All of which are from ongoing issues from a dangerous situation in his homeland of Turkey. But even through all of the muck, Kanter still stays positive and keeps his head held high. As training camp and the preseason are right around the corner, I wanted to take a look a more in-depth look at the Boston Celtics big man and his off-season.
As it’s a fact that Enes Kanter will always speak his mind for what he believes is right, he didn’t back-down from Turkey Prime Minister Erdogan. Kanter’s much needed outburst resulted in his passport being revoked, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued; Kanter hasn’t gone back home to Turkey since 2015. Kanter says “if I’m in America, I am safe.”
Kanter is truly appreciative of the United States, and the opportunity to live a normal life. I think that’s why his 50 basketball camps throughout the country this summer were free of charge. In his own way, it’s a way for Kanter to give back to America; the country that gave him a new and better life. He will still continue his political efforts until the human rights of his people in Turkey actually mean something.

The personality of the big man is exactly what this Boston Celtics team needs; especially after what happened with the team last season. Everywhere Kanter has played (Jazz, Thunder, Knicks, Trailblazers), he’s always been the life of the party. The Boston Celtics fan base should also be thrilled.
“It’s very important for team chemistry. You have to have fun; you have to put a smile on people’s faces, especially in the locker room, especially after a tough game. People will try to learn from their mistakes and at the same time start thinking about the next game. It’s important to be that guy in the locker room and put smiles on people’s faces.” (Via. I really don’t think people understand how important off the court chemistry is, in relation to being on the court. It seems like Kanter wants to be the guy on the team that everyone can go to, especially when it’s not basketball related. Those types of things go hand-in-hand and Kanter notices that.
“I think I try to be that glue guy. I don’t know what happened last year, I wasn’t there, so I don’t want to judge or blame anybody. But I think this year, we have an amazing group of guys and I’m very excited to play with these guys. I think if you’re better friends off the court, it translates to on the court. That’s why it’s to just hang out together and go to a movie and things like that. You’re going to become even better friends and teammates. What you do off the court definitely affects what you do on the court. This year, we have an amazing group of characters and it’s going to be an exciting season.”
I wish there were more people in the world who have the decency to be kind, and think of others before you do yourself. Both Kanter and the Boston Celtics are ready for the 2019-2020 season to kick off. Like Kanter said, it’s going to be an exciting season!
