After going undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft, Tacko Fall has had quite the summer!  He received an Exhibit-10 contract from the Boston Celtics, and became the most popular player in Summer League.  Fall also went back home to Senegal for the first time in seven years.  With training camp starting on Tuesday, Fall has one more thing on his “To Do List”.  Learn how to swim.

Tacko Fall is from Dakar, Senegal.  Dakar is the largest city in Senegal, and also home of some of the most beautiful beaches in the city.  Tacko says that he lived close to the water, but wasn’t really allowed to go.  Fall joined a swimming club at the Boys & Girls Club of Boston to do something he’s always wanted to do; learn how to swim.

“I never learned to swim, which is crazy because I lived right by the ocean in Senegal. i don’t want to say I was a homebody, but my mom didn’t let me go out a lot.” Per Ted Holmlund of New York Post.

It’s not every day that you see a 23 year old 7 foot 7 inch man learning how to swim.  But from looking at the pictures, it seems like the Celtics big man really enjoyed himself.  He even took notice to the death rate of kids drowning in Massachusetts.

“I know that drowning here in Massachusetts is the leading cause of death of kids under the age of 14.  So for me to learn to swim, but also bring awareness to encourage people to bring their kids here to learn how to swim, because maybe, who knows, maybe I can save lives.”

Josh Kraft, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Boston, was very intrigued about Fall learning how to swim, even at 23 years old.  Even went on to say that he’s teaching the youth some important life lessons:

“He’s showing these kids something real important. It’s never too late. It’s never embarrassing to try and do something you don’t know how to do.”

The use of pools and water workouts are more common in today’s sports.  Good thing Tacko is learning how to swim!  At the conclusion of his summer world tour, Tacko Fall is eager to start training camp with the Boston Celtics.  He will be competing for the final roster spot on the Celtics roster.
