The Celtics blowout win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, 118-72, shows us a bit more of Danny Ainge’s plans for this season.

The Celtics racked up yet another blowout win in exhibition play, blowing out the Cleveland Cavaliers by a score of 118-72. There are many stories here, and I will be getting them out during the day.

We saw a hint of why Danny Ainge is elevating Max Strus to a 2-year, standard contract. Strus was high scorer for Boston, coming away with a team-high 14 points in 16 minutes of action. He was 4-of-7 from the field and 4-of-5 on 3-pointers, while adding four rebounds and two assists.

Despite Strus’ new contract and his performance last night, it always seems that Tacko Fall gets the bulk of attention from fans. Tacko was only on the court for six minutes, but made the most of his limited time. He scored four points – grabbed two rebounds, handed out two assists – and got two steals. I wrote previously that Danny Ainge can’t let Tacko get away.  With more experience, training and seasoning, he could be virtually unstoppable. But he needs to work on his free throws. He was 0-of-2 from the line last night, and we don’t want to see a Foul-A-Fall defensive strategy from opponents.

The Theis experiment at center continues to work. Daniel was on the floor for 11 minutes, scoring 10 points on 4-of-5 from the field, while while adding three rebounds, two assists and one block. His movement out there on offense and defense is just what the Celtics need in the middle.

Javonte Green is another player looking to stick on the full-time Celtics roster. Last night, he only scored two points in eight minutes of floor time, but he was 1-of-1 from the field and has yet to miss a shot after participating in three exhibition games. He did also get two boards and two assists in very-limited time, and the Tony Allen comparisons may not be far off.

How about Rob Williams? Well, eight points, three rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 10 minutes tells a lot of the story. Don’t be totally surprised way down the road to see a twin-tower duo of Tacko and Rob having a block party with the opposition. Actually, I wouldn’t mind seeing it this season as part of a blowout game.

Carsen Edwards is getting comfortable out there. He notched 11 points in 15 minutes of action. He was 4-of-6 from the field and 1-of-3 on treys. We should be seeing a lot more of him in the impending regular season. I will finish with a “Smart” play by Marcus, doing an overhead, facing- away lob, most likely hoping that Rob Williams will go over everybody else to get it and score – and that is exactly what happened. Remember to look for more stories from last night’s blowout win.
